Here is a small question. When someone at a new workplace asks, "So, what does your day look like?", can you answer smoothly?
For many people the answer is no. Not because they lack English, but because they have never said their day out loud. They have lived it for years but never spoken about it.
This is the perfect thing to practise with AI. It is a topic you already know completely, so you can focus on speakinginstead of thinking.
Why routine is a great practice topic
You don't need new ideas. You don't need to research anything. You already have all the content. Only the speaking is new. It works like a gym warm-up: light, familiar, and it builds the habit.
Step 1: Use voice mode, not typing
Typing gives you time to think and fix. Real life does not. Voice mode makes AI listen and answer in real time, much closer to an actual conversation. Most AI apps now have a small microphone or voice icon. Tap it.
A fun bite: AI has infinite patience. You can tell it about your morning tea and bus ride 50 times, and it will never say, "You told me this already." No human friend can offer that. Use it.
Step 2: Give the AI a scene
Don't say, "Let's practise." Give it a real situation. Here is a prompt you can copy:
Let's have a friendly conversation. Pretend you are a new colleague at my workplace, and we are having lunch together. Ask me about my daily routine, one question at a time. Keep your questions short. Wait for my answer. Ask a follow-up question based on what I say, like a curious person would. Do not correct my English during the conversation. After 6 questions, stop and give me: 1. Two things I said well 2. Two things I can improve, with examples 3. One new way to say something I said
Step 3: Do three rounds of the same topic
This is the secret that most people miss. Don't move to a new topic. Talk about your routine three times in a row.
- Round 1: Just talk. Let it be messy.
- Round 2: Use the AI's feedback and try to say it better.
- Round 3: Ask the AI to make it harder. For example: "Now ask me as if you are an interviewer, and ask why I follow this routine."
By round 3, the same topic that scared you in round 1 feels easy. That feeling is progress. It is real.
A small AI literacy lesson: talk to it, then change it
Notice what happened. You didn't just use the AI. You directed it. You said, "Don't correct me now." You said, "Make it harder." You are learning that AI changes when you change your instruction. That is the most important AI habit there is. If you don't like the response, don't stop. Rewrite your instruction.
One safety habit
Your routine is personal. It is fine to say, "I wake up at six and take the local train." But avoid sharing things like your full address, phone number, passwords, or bank details with any AI tool. Talk about your life. Keep private details private. It is a good habit for the AI age.
Try it today
- Pick any AI app with voice mode.
- Paste the prompt above.
- Speak for five minutes about your normal day.
- Do it again tomorrow, and change one thing (ask it to be your interviewer, or your new manager).
Remember: Nobody becomes comfortable by reading about speaking. They become comfortable by speaking about small, familiar things, again and again. Start with your day.
